Overview
Vulgar Reverie is a kinetic visual novel for players who want a slow-burn netorase story with a heavier emotional undertow. The tone stays quiet and personal rather than comedic.
Story
The protagonist's wife once belonged to a mafia family, and the two fled together when he confessed his love for her. Years of hiding and fear of being found have worn on him, and that pressure has curdled into fantasies where he imagines her with other men while he stays on the sidelines. He keeps this secret from her, aware of how twisted it would sound if spoken aloud.
Gameplay
As a kinetic novel, the game moves forward through narration and dialogue rather than branching choices, following the protagonist's inner thoughts as they drift into imagined scenarios. Progress comes from reading through these sequences, which are illustrated with animated 2D scenes tied to the story's netorare theme.
Features
- 2D character art with animated scenes for key moments
- A netorase narrative told from the husband's point of view
- Straightforward kinetic-novel pacing with no branching paths
Changelog
v0.23
- Character and Bust Improvements
- Introduced Amelia's new animated bust system. (Just her current one for now, we will get to the rest too!)
- Improved transitions so layered character artwork fades in as one complete image.
- Added the new BustSlots system, allowing characters to automatically reposition themselves as others enter or leave a scene.
- Added automatic character height scaling to better show height differences between the characters.
- Improved numerous character movements, zooms, fades and scene transitions throughout earlier chapters. (If you notice any issues with these, please let me know!)
- Interface and Accessibility
- Added a Textbox Opacity setting, including a live preview.
- Fixed dialogue text appearing outside the textbox on some Android screen sizes. (Test and let me know!)
- Improved interface scaling across different aspect ratios.
- Added a dedicated loading screen while character assets are prepared. (Mostly for the new busts we are putting in.)
- Performance and File Size
- Converted scene artwork to a more efficient format, CONSIDERABLY reducing the game's overall size while retaining its visual quality. (around 1.42GB now compared to 3.08GB it was before!)
- Removed unused audio, images and obsolete Gallery assets.
Fixes:
- Improved compatibility with saves created in earlier versions.
- Fixed layered facial features sometimes appearing before the rest of a character during transitions.
- Fixed several missing backgrounds, music tracks and character issues when starting directly from Chapter Select.
- Corrected positioning, animation, and presentation issues throughout previous chapters.
